Four Wins Away: Toronto’s Underdog Story Heads to the World Series

Blue Jays fans, we have made it to the Promised Land! It took 32 years and yet another legendary 3-run homerun to get us back to the World Series. This team is the definition of resilience and has been tested repeatedly. Forty-nine come back victories in the regular season and the first in MLB history to win the ALCS after losing the first two games at home! This team is built differently. Even when the opposition thinks they have delivered the knockout blow, this Blue Jays team has come back and shown what they are made of.

These Toronto Blue Jays have yet another uphill battle in front of them. The Los Angeles Dodgers are their competition for the 2025 World Series. They are the personification of the modern day “Evil Empire” that has been snatching up talent over the past few years and are looking for another victory to claim Back-to-Back World Series’. It was said that this current Murderers’ Row lineup was set out to ruin baseball by many baseball writers. This was a comment that Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts took to heart during his NLCS Victory speech.

“I'll tell ya, before this season started, they said, The Dodgers are ruining baseball. Let's get four more wins and really ruin baseball! Let's go!"

Ironically, this battle for the Dodgers to go Back-to-Back is against a franchise that completed the feat during their last World Series performance 32 years ago. Topped off with the Epic Walk Off Homerun by Joe Carter. Carter is literally the last Blue Jay to touch a baseball in both those World Series victories in 1992 & 1993.

The embodiment of this Blue Jays team story is George Springer. Heading into this season, the Blue Jays finished last in the AL East. Springer had a rough year, and heading into Spring Training, many were wondering if he was even going to figure it out enough to be of use to this team! Springer, just like this Blue Jays team, rose to the occasion. Blue Jays rough April blossomed into a 94-win season and their first Division Title since 2015. Springer went from near Spring Training write-off to an American League MVP candidate. He has been an inspiration and a leader to this amazing Toronto team.

Then the story of all stories to finish an MLB season. If you sat in a room with the best movie writers in history, trying to make a baseball story, none of them would come up with the rise of youngster Trey Yesavage. Drafted by the Jays 1st round 20th overall in the 2024 draft has already risen through all levels of the minor leagues and will be pitching in his first World Series this weekend! In case that was not enough, the level of what he has played at is astronomical. His young MLB career already boasts 5 no-hit innings vs the Yankees in the ALDS and a key victory in the ALCS this season. Pretty good for someone who did not make his MLB Debut until September 15th.

This battle will start on Friday evening in Toronto. A city and a nation will be watching as this intriguing team looks to complete another underdog story. The team is on the shoulders of Vlad Guerrero Jr., who has been a constant force for the Blue Jays this postseason on his way to winning an ALCS MVP. Vladdy mania is alive and well. He has been so much fun to watch and so feared by opposing batters. We are also hoping that his BFF, Bo Bichette, will be making his Postseason debut as he is returning from a knee injury. Bo Bichette, when healthy, is one of the best hitters in baseball and could be the next hero for this Jays team.

A few phrases to summarize this season, from doubt to destiny, four more victories, one game at a time, next man up, and of course LETS GO BLUE JAYS!
